One of the most exciting games in the casino is Roulette. The anticipation of the wheel spinning, the small ivory ball going the other direction, and the pure joy of hitting a number cold for a 35 to 1 payout! If luck is on your side, roulette is the game for long odds hits.
Roulette is played on a table with a wheel, a ball, the dealer of course, betting chips, and a table with betting squares and numbers. The numbers range from 1 to 36, and include a single and a double zero. The 0 and 00 are green numbers. All the others are black or red, 18 of each.
Players place bets against the house on the table felt. You can place as many bets on the table as you want within the table limits. Tables typically have a minimum bet you have to satisfy on each square played and the total amount you wish to bet in a single spin as a collective. 'Outside' bets usually have limits as well that are clearly stated. An outside bet will be explained below.
Once players have made their bets, the dealer spins the ball. Players are able to continue betting as the wheel spins until such time as the dealer indicates 'no more bets', usually vocally as well as with a hand motion across the top of the table. Online, the system will let players know when the time to bet has expired. Once the ball falls into one of the wheel's slots, the bets are settled by the dealer.
Losing bets are cleared from the table as soon as the ball has fallen into its final resting position, and winning bets are paid out as follows:
| Bet | Payout |
| Single number bet | 35-to-1 |
| olumn et (a bet on the left column 1-34, middle column 2-35 or right column 3-36) | 2-to-1 |
| Split Bet (a bet placed on the line between any two adjoining numbers) | 17-to-1 |
| Three Number Row or ‘The Basket’ (0, 00, and 2) | 11-to-1 |
| Corner Bet (a bet placed at the intersecting point of any four adjoining numbers) | 8-to-1 |
| Line Bet (a bet placed at the intersecting line of two rows covering the six numbers in those two rows) | 5-to-1 |
| 1st, 2nd or 3rd Dozen bet | 2-to-1 |
| Five number bet (0, 00, 1, 2 and 3) | 6-to-1 |
For example, if you placed £10 on the number 4 and it hit on the current spin, you would win £350. Plus, your £10 would still be live for the next bet on the 4, or you could choose to take it off and wager it elsewhere.
Good luck and enjoy the fun and exhilaration that is Roulette!
